In one class I have to draw silhouette composition film studies and in another class we are taking sequences apart by action/camera move. :DAshley Armstronghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14577959265841274797noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23438334.post-47742008414703623532011-01-20T14:35:41.787-08:002011-01-20T14:35:41.787-08:00Fantastic post, I love doing those kind of studies...Fantastic post, I love doing those kind of studies !Quentin Lebeguehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09780101710412702578noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23438334.post-18476423642024584762011-01-19T20:05:53.504-08:002011-01-19T20:05:53.504-08:00thanks so much! i just tried this out and it was r...thanks so much! i just tried this out and it was really insightful to pick out cuts and zooms that i would've taken for granted, but actually establish the story/tone better.bulgogihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06020328195515367774noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23438334.post-66409647558860011842011-01-19T07:12:09.482-08:002011-01-19T07:12:09.482-08:00I find myself bookmarking so many of your posts, a...I find myself bookmarking so many of your posts, and this is no exception! Such great ideas, and I really respect how you're still learning despite how established you are; that's really inspiring.

One of my instructors recently had us do an exercise where we paused an animated film to analyze poses, but I like how you take that farther to analyze a whole scene from a cinematographer's perspective. I'm really excited to try this out!

I also really like your point of watching something without sound to get a better understanding of why/how something is done. On a road trip with my family, we popped in "Treasure Planet," but didn't have enough headphones. This meant sitting in the car watching without sound, and it was amazing the little details and subtle animated movements I noticed! I can't tell you how much I learned from that viewing.Kyrstinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10853994235270512589noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23438334.post-44101858952834622272011-01-18T20:10:13.422-08:002011-01-18T20:10:13.422-08:00You're right, this is a very good method for l...You're right, this is a very good method for learning film storytelling.

You know, back in the last century I used VHS movies for quick sketching practice. I'd freeze a frame I liked, then drew it as completely as I could before the VCR switched back to play mode (roughly 7 minutes).

The Literal version of this trailer is hilarious.Smurfswackerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11807173070389349098noreply@blogger.com
